Lianne and Peter’s personal holidaying experience within New Zealand highlighted the fact that accessible accommodation which complies with the New Zealand Department of Building & Housing (2000) guidelines is particularly scarce, and detailed information about accessible facilities offered by individual motels and hotels is similarly lacking and therefore time-consuming to obtain.

“We discussed the possibilities of creating a dedicated website to help those in New Zealand - and those wishing to vist from overseas - to find accommodation with good quality accessible facilities.” says Lianne, “...so we teamed up with our friends Lynda Beckham and Richard Laing who as graphic designers and web developers provided the creative input to the site.”

This site is intended as a comprehensive resource for those seeking accessible holiday accommodation in New Zealand. Only accommodation with accessible facilities for the disabled or the infirm may register for inclusion on this site. The site lists hotels, motels and private bed and breakfast establishments offering basic to superior facilities.

Thank you for visiting accomobility.co.nz. We trust you will find it a useful reference when seeking accessible accommodation in New Zealand and we hope that the peace of mind that you obtain from knowing that your accommodation will meet all your requirements will be the first step towards enjoying your stay.

The developers of this site, Lianne and Peter Kalivati, live in Wellington, New Zealand. Peter was a well respected officer in the New Zealand Police and a champion athlete before he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) in November 2006. The progressive and debilitating nature of this terminal disease means that Peter is now reliant on a wheelchair and his caregiver to manage his daily needs.

Peter’s journey with MND was featured on TVNZ’s programme “Attitude”.
